About the Member of Parliament 
Peter Stoffer was first elected in June 1997 and then re-elected in November 2000 in the riding of Sackville-Musquodoboit Valley-Eastern Shore. Peter is the federal NDP critic for Fisheries & Oceans, ACOA, Natural Resources, Parks, Softwood Lumber and Regional & Rural Development.
Personal History
Peter was born in Heerlen, Holland in 1956 and immigrated to Canada as a child with his family. Peter grew up in Richmond, British Columbia, lived in the Yukon for 9 years and moved to Nova Scotia in 1988. Before becoming an MP, Peter worked at Canadian Airlines for 18 years.
Peter and his wife, Andrea, live in Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia with their two daughters, Jasmin and Amber.
Community Involvement
Peter has been active in the environmental movement and has received a number of awards for his efforts. Peter received a Community Service Award and an Award of Merit from the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment for his environmental work. He was a guest of His Royal Highness Prince Philip at a special dinner sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund of Canada. In November 2000, Peter was given the “Green MP” award from the Sierra Legal Defence Fund - one of only 13 MPs to receive this award. Peter continues to be involved in environmental issues in both his political and private life.
In his spare time, Peter enjoys hiking, playing golf, and being with his family. He is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and coaches soccer.
